Truth is very important to the believer.
Without the stand, you will not have anything to stand on.
Without the truth, you will not be able to tell what is a lie and what is truth.
Put on God's armour everyday you get up |
In so many ways.
Let me outline three ways:
- Your spirit man is lifted with the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:10)
As part of your armour, you need to put on the belt of truth, it protects your spirit man. You protect your loins, where the spirit man is believed to reside with the truth of God.
"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist..." (Ephesians 6:14)
- The truth will set you free
John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
When you are unsaved, there will be many areas of your life where you will be in bondage even though it may not be obvious to the visible eye. God's truth will make you free.
- The truth will sanctify you:
John 17: 16-17 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.
If you are a new believer, it is possible that you have not come across this verse earlier. This is a prayer that Jesus prayed for His disciples.
If you have made the decision to go beyond knowing Jesus as saviour to being His disciple, this prayer is for you. Jesus has prayed that the word sanctify you.
The word of God can sanctify you. For the word to do its work of sanctification, you need to believe it.
So what is truth?
Verse 17 of John chapter 17 answers that question. It says, "your word is truth".
Wearing God's armour helps you stand against the schemes of the devil |
Truth will set you free.
Before you give your life to Christ, you may believe that living under the control of sin, sickness and the devil is God's will.
After you give your life to Christ and encounter truth, you discover God's will.
God's will for you is to not be poor, not be sick, and not be under the control of sin or the devil.
His desire for you is to live under the dominion of God and His kingdom. His word will show you what He sees as truth.
Be bold to receive God's will and word for you and start praying about it.
As your words, thoughts, actions and beliefs change, your life will begin to align to the thoughts, will, mind, and purpose of God.
This is the life of surrender.
How do you progressively surrender more areas of your life to Christ?
Nothing rash.
You need to encounter the power of God.
After encountering the power of God and building a relationship with Him, all you need to do is follow the leading of the Spirit of God.
One word of caution: The word of God will never disagree with the Spirit of God.
Read the word of God ravenously and the Holy Spirit will have material to help communicate God's mind to your spirit.
How do you encounter the power of God?
I was watching an OAP yesterday and I live in Africa.
In Africa, whenever one thinks about power, the first thing they consider is the power of the devil.
As one who was not brought up in the village, I did not have any previous encounter with village things.
So when I think of power, I think of the things that I am familiar with. My first encounter with power was my mother's pastor.
My second encounter with power was in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and my meeting with the Spirit of God. Read more about it here:
So the OAP said, he wants to marry someone who has powers. He was mocking.
IMO his mockery came from the belief that a believer is not meant to have power.
Not powers. But power.
How can I prove it?
Jesus believed in the believer being empowered to witness His word.
His opinion was that no one minister the word until they had been empowered by Holy Spirit.
He believed it so much he asked them to wait in Jerusalem until they be endued with power from on high.
Acts 1:8 NIV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit did not come only to leave again. He came to stay and make a permanent dwelling in the believer.
1 Corinthians 6:19
What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
What is the above verse telling the one who has chosen to believe in Christ?
It is saying that you are in Christ and Christ is in you.
It is saying you do not belong to yourself.
It is saying your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Now if you do not know the truth and someone calls you a demon, you may out of fear believe them.
That would be a really weak position and the devil would take advantage of your ignorance and have a field day in your life.
But when you know the truth (For context again, the truth is the word of God) you are able to believe the truth and decree it.
Every day.
Not just on Wednesday and Sunday.
The truth sets you free.
Knowing and receiving the truth in the bible will change your life.
The last part of Ephesians goes deeper and says:
Ephesians 6:17
"...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
Another offensive weapon is the sword of the Spirit.
You can use the word of God as a sword and cut down every lie that the enemy sends you.
You can pray the word of God and use it to conquer everything the enemy has ever sent into your life.
If you do not have a prayer life, I encourage you to start today. Write down what you want to accomplish as we enter into this last quarter.
Write it down:
I have mine.
The first thing I pray about is my character, then kingdom goals, then business goals, then family goals.
I have noticed that as soon as my character lines up with the word of God, everything else starts aligning.
So be sure to list the areas that you want Holy Spirit to work on in your life.
If you want to learn more about the Holy Spirit and His work in your life, read this post:
The baptism of Holy Spirit - My personal story
NB: All my blog posts for the rest of the year till further notice will be on truth and how you can use the truth of God's word to get answered prayer.
In the place of prayer, the transformation you seek as you spend time in God's presence begins to happen almost natural.
Although it is a very intentional thing. Choosing to build a prayer life is intentional.
Shalom!
I pray that God will bless you with grace and supplication and by the workings of the Spirit of God, your life will be transformed in Jesus name, amen.
