I work with a laptop.
Sometimes I don't have light so I join some of the small businesses in the area and share their electricity.
Former acquaintances have even spread rumours that I do yahoo. Some of those who are the most vengeful people on the planet are people who used to know you but never had good intentions towards you.
It hurt.
David's quote from the psalms comes to mind.
Psalm 41:9
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.
It hurt me.
Why?
1. They never reached out to help me out of a tough time.
2. They made the time even tougher by spreading rumours that I am involved in yahoo.
I finally believe that there are no permanent friends only people with common interests.
I forgive them.
May God forgive them.
I will recover.
I will recover.
I always feel disgusted when I am asked this question.
The yahoo question.
This is because I think, why is it hard for them to assume that I am running my business.
Why is the first thing that comes to the mind of Nigerians yahoo?
Why can't Nigerians take advantage of opportunities when they show up? Why do they prefer easy money to money that they can work for?
Why do they prefer BBN shows to opportunities to get grants to start small businesses? (Holla at me on 08130800741 if you are interested. Send a text, I will call you).
Yahoo/419 refers to fraudulents acts carried out by Nigerian or African or American/UK citizens using aliases.
Fraud has always existed, some Nigerians escalated it.
Other African countries, and Europe and American scam artists now craft stories about the African Prince who wants to sell a Nigerian landmark etc.
My encounter with the negative effects of 419 come when I have to proof myself like hundred times before someone does business with me. For others it is when they are on a line travelling out of the country and they are called aside and their luggages are searched because they have a green passport.
Let's pick 60 reasons because Nigeria turns 60
Yahoo is bad because
- You might never discover who you are because you think all your intelligence is for cheating others and not for creating solutions
- You deface/devalue yourself
- You stop your potentials from developing midway
- You are a fugitive in waiting, you will be caught one day
- You steal life savings
- You make life difficult for others
- You are dishonourable even if no one knows. You know and will subconsciously treat yourself less because even if your conscience is dead, your soul is not
- You will never see the best of you, who God dreamed you would become
- You are invoking a curse on you and your generation, God will not forget the cry of the one who was robbed
- You will never have the peace of God
- You will never be satisfied, your taste will never be quenched
- You will never have enough money
- You just destroyed a life maybe 3, maybe 50
- Someone is praying curses over you daily. Did you see the woman in Delta state, when she collapsed on the floor crying after she had given her life savings of N400,000 away. If she dies do you think her children would forgive you?
- You could get convicted and go to jail
- You never forget the evil you did, it's trauma
- You can get nightmares from stealing and being responsible for another persons suicide
- People will hail you and take money from you, but will never trust you.
- Some bankers may help you launder your money but will still call you yahoo boy/girl in their secret place
- Many will want you to buy from them but will call you scammer behind your bank
- Your country will suffer for your sins.
- Your fellow citizens will have difficulty because of your choices.
- You will be developing a bad culture in your environment
- You would have become as corrupt as those you once chastised
- You would have very many expensive trinkets but no self esteem
- You would be living a lie.
- You would be unable to find someone who is foolish enough to live your lie with you.
- If you do find someone with your loose values, it would be someone you don't respect very much.
