Can you remember your first heartbreak or the first time a friend betrayed you? It must have been a shock; it must have hit you hard.
Just
imagine having no shock absorbers to cushion your heart from the damaging effects
of the actions or words of other
These are matters of the heart that must be faced in order to grow and become the dream that God has of you.
Growth
is essential if we must fulfil all that the Lord has written about us in His
books in heaven.
Dealing with negative emotions
Feelings
cannot be ignored. They must be faced and acknowledged in the light of who God
has called us, His precious sons and daughters, worthy of love and have great
value in the sight of God.
Nothing
can describe the feeling of loss that goes with this kind of incident. You feel
anger, hatred, sadness and a need to carry out vengeance, to destroy in some
way the one who has caused you hurt.
How
about divorce?
Some
kinds of events destroy you; they destroy your ability to feel, to trust and to
believe in anything or anyone.
God
made man and woman with a soul. The ability to feel love, joy, pain, hurt and a
host of other emotions. These emotions play a key role in the life of the one
who believes in Jesus.
Without
being in touch with your emotions and your soul, some souls will remain unsaved
and some people who need your help will never receive it because the bowels of
compassion may die.
We
all process loss, pain, guilt, and our emotions differently. God expects us to
forgive.
We
do not forgive for the sake of others. We forgive for “us” and our relationship with God.
An
unforgiving heart will not hear God. An unforgiving heart will have some
measure of difficulty receiving from God.
Doing
things, God’s will always look like you are playing the fool, and consistently
being taken advantage of. Do not let it discourage you from doing things in the
way of the kingdom.
There
is the place of wisdom and walking after the Spirit of God. There is the place
of obedience to the Spirit of God. Obey the Lord with grace.
If
you have been hurt, betrayed or had your heartbroken, & recover.
There
are many who never recover.
Your
recovery will determine the quality of your relationship with God.
It
is important to learn what recovery looks like and what you might be losing by
not seeking recovery.
On your heart and caring for it.
“A good man out
of the good treasure that is in his heart brings forth good things”
Many
people go through heartbreak, disappointments and recovery from grief without
really caring about their heart and what it means to be emotionally healthy.
I
used to be one of those people.
I
used to deny all my emotions and be desperate to present a powerful front all
of the time.
When I got saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, He helped me to see that actually
being strong was more important than appearing strong.
He
taught me that acknowledging your feelings and dealing with them in partnership
with Him was more important than putting up a front.
It
is possible that those who do have healthier hearts that can receive from God
than those who want to handle everything themselves.
Only
God can heal the heart of man and restore it to the way it was before it got
hurt.
“Out of the
abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
I
personally believe that the serial killers of the world, the people who do
others great harm were once hurt and never got healing from the Lord. Well, you
have to know the Lord to be able to trust Him enough to surrender and receive
healing from Him.
Many
of the blessings of the Lord are attached to healthy hearts.
Consider
this parable. It is called the parable of the sower.
The
seed that fell on good soil yielded a 100-fold. The seed that fell on all the
other kinds of soils did not bear any fruit at all.
Fruit-bearing is connected to having a healthy heart emotionally.
Cultivating
a healthier heart emotionally should be one of the goals that we should give
priority.
If
you have ever gone through a heartbreak, a divorce or have grieved anyone you
lost to the cold hands of death, you should consider what is commonly called inner healing.
I
can recommend a couple of inner healing programs.
You
can also take it to the Lord in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to heal your
heart and give you a new heart.
Walk-in love
Determine
to walk in love.
It
is the higher road. Many will not walk in it.
Lay
down the hurts, the pain, disappointments, betrayal etc
Whatever
has not been mentioned in this article that falls into this category, determine
to lay it down at the altar of the Lord.
There
is nothing (emotional, physical or spiritual) that the Lord cannot fix if you
give it to Him. In humility hand it over to the Lord. Drop it at the altar and
do not walk away with it.
Trust
the Lord. Trust Him with your heart. Trust Him with your life. Trust Him with
your destiny. God always has better for you than you desire for yourself.
One word of advice
Do
not expect to have it all together. Embrace the practical. Do not seek
perfection. Seek wholeness in Christ.
Some
things will come to you with maturity. Some things will come to you because you
have an intercessor actively praying for you. Some things will come to you
because of partnership. Some things will come because you pour out your heart
to the Lord in trust.
Faith
is a walk. Never stop seeking the Lord. He longs to meet you where you speak to
Him from your heart.
Remember
Christianity is a relationship that must be cultivated. Be actively involved in
‘talking’ to God daily and following His instructions.
To
end this post, I would like to ask, how is your heart?
Is
it in a good forgiving place? Or does it need the redeeming power of the blood
to get it beating again?
A
healthy heart receives from God all His good things. I exhort you to pick a day
weekly where you endeavour to forgive all the hurts that come from the daily
communication with the world and others.
Commit
to actively becoming more like Christ. The rewards are of great value.
